Oman’s free zones

Sohar, Salalah, Al Mazunah, and Muscat Airport Free Zone offer four distinct platforms for international trade and operations.

Sohar Free Zone connects with a major port and heavy industry; Salalah with transshipment and Indian Ocean access; Al Mazunah with Yemen-border trade; and Muscat Airport Free Zone with air logistics and time-sensitive goods. Fit depends on product, origin and destination, operating scale, and the need to serve Oman’s domestic market.

The label ‘free zone’ does not automatically make it the best structure. Land and warehousing costs, permitted activities, employment requirements, mainland customs treatment, and applicable incentives must be confirmed for the specific project.

How each zone is positioned

  • Sohar: industry, metals, petrochemicals, food, and maritime logistics
  • Salalah: transshipment, distribution, manufacturing, and access to East Africa and Asia
  • Al Mazunah: border trade, warehousing, and light industry
  • Muscat Airport: air logistics, services, and high-value goods

Questions before choosing

  • Is the final customer in Oman or an export market?
  • Which port or airport shortens the real cargo route?
  • How much production, warehousing, and working capital is needed?
  • Are incentives confirmed for this exact activity and structure?
